I have eczema as well. Your poor mother, I haven't been able to sleep for over a year now because of the itching, it feels like little needles pricking your skin. I have tried everything. They have finally found something that seems to be working. I take Zyrtec 10mg (twice a day), prescribed Zantac (twice a day) and apply Elocon (twice a day). Elocon cannot be used on the face or thin skinned areas. You have to give it at least a week because one of the side effects is itching (of all things). If she can make it past the initial week it should really help her itching. I have been sleeping well for a week now. The Elocon is supposed to heal the skin but cannot be used for an extensive amount of time because it has severe side effects. After she bathes she should blot her skin lightly and quickly apply a thin layer of the Elocon. The doctor also prescribed a syrup type medication to be taken only at night time. She said this would also help me with my itching. From what I understand the more she scratches, the worse it gets, and can spread to other areas. The Zyrtec, according to my doctor, is the best medication for people with Eczema. I started to get heartburn, which I was told was another side effect to the Eczema/Allergy issue. That's the reason for the Zantac.

: I use "Castellini's Paint" (get the purple colored instead of clear because it is better) to stop the itch. It also closes some of the open sores that occur with Exema. I also use a cream during the day called "lidex" generic: fluocinonide .05% . This works well as long as you use it twice a day.

: : : : : My Mom has been diagnosed with exema, and it's driving her crazy, especially the itching.
: : : : : doctor gave her some cream and some type of spray.
: : : : : anyone have any ideas on what to use for the itching? The stuff the doctor gave her is not working real well.

: : : : : The rash keeps reappearing in other places on her body. Where does it come from?what is the cause.
: : : : : thanks for the response
: : : : ---------------
: : : : She should tell the doc that the cream is not helping. there are several on the market.
: : : : I do know benedryl helps with iching. There is a generic over the counter pill to take. It can make you sleepy! You can break it in half. But, call the doc.....see if there is another cream she can try.....sometimes if your doc has them....ask for a sample! Then you do not have to spend $ on something that does not work :)
: : : : Good luck
