: I use "Castellini's Paint" (get the purple colored instead of clear because it is better) to stop the itch. It also closes some of the open sores that occur with Exema. I also use a cream during the day called "lidex" generic: fluocinonide .05% . This works well as long as you use it twice a day.

: : : : : My Mom has been diagnosed with exema, and it's driving her crazy, especially the itching.
: : : : : doctor gave her some cream and some type of spray.
: : : : : anyone have any ideas on what to use for the itching? The stuff the doctor gave her is not working real well.
: : : : : The rash keeps reappearing in other places on her body. Where does it come from?what is the cause.
: : : : : thanks for the response
: : : : ---------------
: : : : She should tell the doc that the cream is not helping. there are several on the market.
: : : : I do know benedryl helps with iching. There is a generic over the counter pill to take. It can make you sleepy! You can break it in half. But, call the doc.....see if there is another cream she can try.....sometimes if your doc has them....ask for a sample! Then you do not have to spend $ on something that does not work :)
: : : : Good luck

: : : Forgot.......she could have shingles. My mom had this. It is awful, and sometimes painful. Look it up on the www
: : Just a thank you to the posters to this thread! I have had this mess on my leg for years and just thought it was some kind of jungle rot that I picked up in Viet Nam...Going tomorrow to a Dermatologist...Thanx Group!!!

I have exema really bad also. I have found that things like wool, extream weather changes like when winter comes around, and sometimes my cat's dander can cause it flar up. I usually just have it show up on my arm in the fold when you bend your elbow and sometimes on the fold i.e. the back of my knees. That is usually caused by sweat being trapped there. But this winter it messed up my face pretty bad. My doctor decided to treat it by perscribing an antibotic to treat under the skin, and Hydrocortizone cream 2% to me.
I know that the Hydrocortizone cream has really helped my incesent scratching and itching. It might work for your mom. Also, tell her that after it has been brought under control, that it is not going away! The Hydrocortizone cream 1% is none perscription, and it is a good idea to keep it around the house for when it mildly starts to come back. It will also help keep it under control.
