Four Year Old Warrior
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 2000 -- JTB8817@aol.com

By day he roams the boundless world,
Enchanted dragons slays,
Ascends with banners brave unfurled
Olympus' highest ways;
But night will find him safely curled
In Mother's arms always.

Awake he scours the lonely deeps
On pirate bands to prey;
In schooners, rocket ships and jeeps
He charts his fearful way.
But Mother guards him while he sleeps,
This warrior of the day.

In daytime feat his word is law,
He rules with iron will,
And desperadoes shake with awe
Whene'er his glance grows chill;
But Mother's nightly nod will draw
Him bedward, child-like still.
