In Memory of Alicia
Loving Mother, Wife, and Friend

-- by Shelby Forrest -- Copyright 1997 -- sforrest@earthlink.net

The following poem was written for a young mother of 30, a friend of my daughter, who went into a coma and died after a local anesthesia was administered for a cosmetic operation.A death that should not have occured.

So quiet and peaceful Alicia now lies
In that final silence of death,
Encased in a vacuum of stillness
Devoid of motion and breath.

Tis hard to look at this once vibrant girl,
So dear to her family and friends
To see her so still, realizing her life
So abruptly has come to an end.

Three children now are left without
Their mother’s firm guiding hand
By a shocking and painful tragic event
They are unable to understand.

That the life of this kind and loving girl
Has in stark finality ended
Is really not, loved ones believe,
For her what God has intended

Even those with a deep and abiding faith
Such tragedy may not understand
But they still believe Alicia’s soul
Feels the comfort of God’s loving hands

Now laid to rest are her mortal remains
These alone can be taken away
But the lasting memories of her love and care
Always with her loved ones will stay.
