Her Name Was Anna
-- by Ellen Fair Copyright 1997 -- fairelle@gte.net

He said her name was Anna
One he loved so long ago
He said she loved another
And he had to let her go
As lonely years passed him by
'Twas Anna on his mind
And though he wed another
True love he did not find

And so he took his pen in hand
And wrote of love so true
Of Mozart, wine and roses
'Twas all his heart could do
And somewhere is sweet Anna
Who thinks of him each day
And prays he has a rainbow
And stars to light his way

If one could see the shadows
That their long lost love imparts
They would see one shadow
Yet they would see two hearts
The angels hear the music
As she plays each night at ten
And they can read sweet sonnets
As he writes with tearful pen
He said her name was Anna
And though the years are passing now
He cannot let her go
