It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
-- by Ed Shustack Copyright 1998 -- shu@bellatlantic.net

I open the front door and step inside
While the dog barks a litany of welcome.
Then from a bedroom upstairs
I hear Tweety, Elmo, and Ernie gyrate and wiggle
As a tiny voice squeals and giggles.
Slowly, I sneak to take a peek
At her stretching and yawning
As she awakens from sleep.

But in my haste, I make a sound
And she rises to full height then turns around
With a smile that can melt the deepest freeze
And a glow in her eyes--for me if you please!
As she shakes and bounces with delight
Reaching for me and squeezing me tight
While cooing her baby talk into my ear
Which translates to: My Grandpa is here!
