Brotherly Love

I was playing in the garden, found a big green bug,
So I put it in a bottle with a good tight plug,
Then going to the house I found a slimy slug,
So I put it in the bottle,
With my bug!
I went to Sissy’s bedroom, there was no-one there,
So I put the slimy slug upon my sister’s chair,
Then from the shelf above her bed I took her fav’rite doll,
And I put it in her bed
Beside my bug!
I knew when she had found them for I heard her shout,
Then our Mummy came a’calling, "What’s it all about?"
My sister said, "Look Mummy, it’s a slimy slug,
And in bed beside my dolly
Is a bug!"
I was doubled over laughing when I heard their cries,
For the bug in bed with Dolly was a big surprise,
Then our Mummy saw the creature, gave a great big scream,
And she flopped into the chair,
Beside the slug!
But it wasn’t quite so funny when they caught me on the stair,
For they dropped the slimy slug into the middle of my hair,
And while I cried with terror as I tried to get it out,
Down the collar of my jacket
Went the bug!
So I promised that I’d never ever tease my sis again,
And I really, really meant it, but I must explain
That I’ll go into the garden when I get my bottle back,
And I’ll find an even bigger,
Greener bug!
I was really sad that I had lost my big, green bug,
And the bottle where I kept it with the slimy slug?
But because I put my bug into my sister’s bed,
My mother took my bottle
And she hid it!
But I found out where she hid it, and when Mother wasn’t there
I climbed up to the shelf upon a kitchen chair,
Being very, very careful ‘cause I didn’t want to fall,
So I got my bottle back
And went outside.
I wondered what I’d find to make my sister squirm,
So I dug between the flowers, found a big, fat worm.
And I put it in my bottle with a little bit of dirt,
Then I hid it in the corner,
Near the house.
Now when no-one else was watching me I crept into the house,
And I opened up the closet, just as quiet as a mouse.
There I found my sister’s jacket which she always wore to school,
And deep in to the pocket
Went the worm!
My mother called to me, she said,”The wind is getting cold.
You must put on something warmer!” so I did what I was told,
And I took my winter jacket from the closet in the hall,
Then I quickly put it on
Before I left.
But I didn’t like the feeling when I tried to warm my hand,
And I put it in my pocket - for I’ll never understand
How the worm I put in Sissy’s coat was now in mine instead,
And I thought whoever played that trick
Was mean!
Then I heard a gentle rapping on the window up above,
And I saw my Mum give Sissy’s arm a happy little shove.
They were looking down and laughing while I held the squirmy worm,
So I dropped it where I’d found it
In the dirt.
Now I think I’ve learned my lesson, so I say to other boys,
If you try to tease your sister with a trick you know annoys,
Be sure that no-one sees you or the joke might be on you,
And I’m sure that you won’t like it
If you’re caught!
