Two figures slowly walking hand in hand,
Had often graced the hot,cemented street;
each day at three,as if precisely planned
they would emerge from some remote retreat.

For many years,this couple could be seen
together,as they took their aimless walk;
it had become a neighborhood routine
that could be timed exactly,by the clock.

She was so small beside his taller frame,
her hair was white, while his was iron grey-
they had no friends,and no one knew their name,
yet they appeared on schedule every day.

One afternoon at three, with weary tread
he walked their course alone...and mourned his dead.
