Cowbird
-- by Bernard Gluck- Copyright 2000 -- bgluck@earthlink.net

A cowbird's in my garden
He came here yesterday
When I am passing very close
He doesn't fly away.

I don't think he is injured
He doesn't drag a wing
He flies around a little bit
But haven't heard him sing.

I brought him out a dish of seed
Put water there to drink
He walked there and began to feed
He wants to stay I think.

It could be he is very old
A senior bird like me
His flock is headed north I'm told
But here he'd rather be.

Well, that's just fine and he can stay
And share our garden too
I'll see that he gets fed each day
The least that I can do.
