Computer Concepts

I slipped one day and fell onto the ground
I got up quick, and kind of looked around.
My back hurt some; my knees sort of quivered
My pride hurt bad; the ice just shivered.
I lost my job, because of that rediculous fall
I couldn't walk, run, or stand very tall.
I gave it some thought; then I said with a wink
"to school I'll go, to sit, learn, and think"
I looked at the courses and with a tremble in my voice,
I picked computer concepts; it appeared a logical choice
I could sit on my behind, and not have to stand
How hard could it be, this course in computer land.
I picked the nighttime, to attend this computer class
I wanted to walk slow; not have to run or dash.
I walked into the room, with a slight trace of fear
Did I choose right,or just what am I doing here?
I glanced around, and picked out a nice looking chair
The room was kind of quiet, with anticipation in the air.
Everyone looked so young, and I really felt old
I wondered what I was doing, being reckless or bold?
In front of my chair, was this TV looking screen
With a typewriter in front, and light that blink real mean.
It looked a little scary and intimidating to me
They called it a computer, what a sight is was to see.
The teacher showed up; I sighed with a grin
She had a pretty smile, and calmness within.
I knew she could teach, as I looked into her eyes
She was compassionate, patient, & made you sort of sigh.
The classes were tough, but I did fairly well
I learned Word, Access, PowerPoint, & that dreaded Excel.
My classmates were troopers, and they helped me a great deal
Being a grandpa was OK, and they made it feel so real.
Computers are a must, in this world we have today
And this concept class seemed to create the way.
I sure am glad, as I sit, and think here now
I can work again, because I just learned how.
