To Ride A Dragon
-- by Jan Burd -- Copyright 1996 --

Whoever said dragons
Were hard and cold.
Has never ridden one across the sky.
Never dared to be so bold.

I have a dragon, of purest blood.
His scales are blue,
His eyes are green,
And his talons ebony in hue.

As he takes me across the skies,
I lay atop his head,
Snuggled contentedly,
Like floating on a warm feather bed.

When I put my ear against his scale,
I can hear his mighty heart beat,
And I can feel the warmth
Of his dragon fires heat.

A tiny smile crosses my lips.
Whoever said dragons were hard and cold,
Had never ridden one across the sky.
Never dared to be so bold.
