Elucidation

I had reached the situation
Where I needed a vacation,
And at first my inclination
Was to travel overseas,
So I got some information
Re the dollar’s fluctuation,
Then I knew peregrination
My finances wouldn’t please!
So it’s to the railroad station,
For I had the expectation
That the railroad transportation
Would be comf’table and cheap;
But I met with consternation
with the sad realization
That the night accommodation
Was a costly way to sleep.
Then a speedy calculation
After getting a quotation
Meant the swift eradication
Of a lengthy railroad trip,
For my maximum donation
Wouldn’t meet the obligation,
And my own imagination
My finances would outstrip.
So I made an application
To my bank, with trepidation,
But with righteous indignation
They refused to grant a loan.
They ignored my supplication,
For they said my reputation
Was a serious limitation
Which they never could condone.
Now this ultimate vexation
Quite destroyed my jubilation!
There was every indication
As vacation time was near,
That I needed a libation,
For perhaps intoxication
Would allay my agitation
While I waited till next year.
