Enchanted Sea
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 1999 -- JIB8817@aol.com

My mind is an enchanted sea,
A sea without a shore;
Its infinite variety
I eagerly explore.

Exultantly I chart my course,
Make haste to hoist the sails;
I batten down, then gather speed
And run before the gales.

Defiantly the wrathful waves
Assail the sullen sky,
The spiteful winds howl curses at
The sea birds scudding by;

And then so suddenly the stars
Emerge to signal calm;
The squalls abate, the storms subside,
Sweet sirens sing their psalm.

Soft breezes play as ripples dance,
The sea becomes a lake,
A rainbow glistens overhead,
The dawn begins to break.

Within my mind I cruise that sea
And wander as I will
To relocate and live again
Those scenes that haunt me still.
