-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 1998 -- JTB8817@aol.com

I've traveled far and labored long,
And fortune has been kind;
I've known good friends and drunk good wine
And danced when so inclined.

My few regrets I hold inside,
Reluctant to complain;
My petty problems dwindle down
And happy thoughts remain.

Instead of deeds now memories
Become my chief pursuit
And seem more real in retrospect,
My insights more astute.

I tire more quickly, much forget,
And dream of other days;
Too frequently I criticize,
And find far less to praise.

But I don't mope or sit around
To do as I am told!
There's time enough for all that stuff
Some day when I grow old.
