Faceless
-- by Mickey Hurt - Copyright 1999 -- mickhurt@wcc.net

I saw a statue of a lady
Sitting cross legged on the ground
A blanket draped her shoulders
And covered her body all around

She looked warn and peaceful from the back
But her front gave me a scare
Her eyes, her nose, her mouth, her chin
Her face....It wasn't there!

Why was this woman faceless?
What did she have to hide?
Her laughter, joy and sadness
Are forever locked inside.

Sometimes, I, too, feel that way
Like a faceless piece of stone
Devoid of friends and family
Or a God to call my own

Too afraid to share my sadness
Too insecure to share my pain
For fear that you won't understand
And I'll be rejected once again

But, those feelings don't last too long
I have a face to see
God and friends and family
That I love, and they love me.
