We're Glad The Kids Are Coming Home

We're glad the kids are coming home
Too many years, we've been alone
We've been married sixty years
And had our share of joys and tears
So it is nice that they can be
Home for our anniversary.
They are spread out far and wide
I wish that they could all reside
Near our home so we could be
A closer knit family.
The little ones grow up so fast
Too soon, those childhood years are passed
Too bad that they should hardly know
Grandparents, who love them so.
So, now, I'm thinking day and night
About the goodies that I might
Make ahead and can or freeze,
Forget about the calories.
Our time together should be sweet
We can talk and laugh and eat.
We look forward to these joys.
I hope that we can stand the noise.
It would be nice, if this party could be
Completely, smoke and alcohol free.
But if this makes you overwrought
You're in more trouble than I thought.
But, there goes mom-spoilinf the fun,
By asking things you think can't be done.
So, maybe we can compromise-
If you'll agree, it would be wise
To keep your beer and smokes outside,
And promise Mom you won't get "fried."
Cause mamma would be mortified.
I'm really very proud of you,
For what you are and what you do.
But mostly, I am very pleased
To see your love of families.
