To Gloria On Our Forty Sixth
-- by Shelby M. Forrest - Copyright 1998 -- sforrest@earthlink.net
Life's wheel has spun once again and stopped
On a day I'll forever remember,
For on this day years ago we were wed
The Thirteenth of December
We cannot restrain these fast moving years
Racing by ere we know they have passed.
Since that long-ago day when our vows were exchanged
Two score and six years have amassed
Adversity's presence together we've faced
Making stronger the bond stretched between us
The comforting spirit and the hand of God
Have protected and eer overseen us
These forty six years, now cemented by love
Are replete with both pleasure and pain,
But if I were given the option of chance
I'd live them all over again.
There are varied meanings for the Golden Years,
And to each his own should be true,
But those Golden years for me, My Dear,
Are the years I have spent with you.
