Golden Year
-- by L.B. Strawn - Copyright 1982 -- poetman99@aol.com

Our love has survived the trials of life
And we've reached that golden year,
But with you beside me as my wife,
All those years were golden, my dear.

I could not have chosen a wife more true,
More loving, more gentle, more caring or kind,
So our bond of marriage just grew and grew,
For in heaven it was surely designed.

If we weren't growing more feeble each year
I could wish for fifty more like those which are gone,
But in growing too feeble, there is little cheer---
Though our undying love will go on and on.

So, while we have our wits and some pep,
We'll walk slowly down the sunset hill.
We must be careful and watch each step
Or one of us might take a nasty spill.

But, if we walk as we have in the past,
Holding firmly to each other's hand,
Since I know our love will remain steadfast,
We'll walk on t'ward heaven and all will be grand.

For our golden anniversary, February 22, 1997
