Nourishment for the Growing Soul
-- by Shelby Forrest - Copyright 1999 -- sforrest@earthlink.net

A house on firm foundation built
Can Nature's wrath endure
With beams of steel and tough oak frames
And stone that's strong and pure.

But houses that so carelessly
Are built on beds of sand-
Such houses cannot be designed
Harsh weather to withstand.

Just like a house, the soul of man
Will firm foundation need.
A base of goodness and of love
Washed clean of hate and greed.

The soul that's built on hatred is
Like houses built on sand.
Too weak for pressures of the world,
Its evil to withstand.

The soul that's braced with love of God
Will soar as angels fly,
Will grow to full maturity,
Can never wilt nor die.
