Let Us Stride Hand-In-Hand
-- by Macabee Dean -- Copyright 1997 -- macdean@netvision.net.il

Let us stride hand-in-hand into our twilight years,
face the setting sun together.
Let us fight the snarling shadows
of clawing time,
of shrinking years,
of galloping months,
of short-changed days,
of insomniactic nights

Let us make love with harmony,
live with mellow understanding.
Let us marry our joys and hopes,
and bury our sorrows and woes.

Let your problems be my problems,
let my problems be your problems.
Let us solve them together,
sharing pain and challenge.

Let the dimming light of our aging eyes
give us both inner sight,
Let our love give birth to a nobler spirit.
We cannot stop the setting sun,
We can only change ourselves.

So, let us carve from the sinking sun
a slice of gold to warm our dreams,
to inspire each other's thoughts,
to expand each other's souls.

Grow old with me;
Hold my hand when my eyes close, and I die.
Mark my grave not with a stone,
but with tender remembrance.
