To Her Dismay
-- by Chuck Pool - Copyright 1999 -- CPool71148@aol.com

Stretched across my upper lip
Trimmed almost to perfection
A salt and pepper mustache grows
But to my wife’s objection

It seems that when we try to kiss
Her nose gets poked by hair
So she beckons me to shave it off
Removing it from there

But just the thought of doing so
Sends shivers down my spine
It’s really all that I can say
That’s left to claim as mine

Great care and effort has been spent
To make it look just right
And even though she protests so
It will remain despite

It is the essence that is me
And the image I portray
But shaved I’d be another man
So the mustache has to stay
