Immortality

Some say that life is meaningless that humankind is weak;
Existence is futility, its expectations bleak!
But life will be rewarding, our dreams will be fulfilled,
For those of us who value life, whose spirits won't be stilled!
We optimists will relish life with every waking breath,
And count our blessings as they come, ignoring spectral Death.
For Death is just a shapeless cloud, a figment of our minds.
A refuge from the trials of life that mental anguish finds.
The pessimist will loudly claim that all who live must die,
But art and music, prose and verse this falsehood will belie.
Vibrating spirits from our past will always give us aid
To shake off dull depression, to enjoy the life we've made.
The writers and the artists, the musicians, though they've died,
Still live with us, eternally; they cannot be denied.
So celebrate three score and ten, proclaim the race you ran;
Contribute to the legacy that man has left to man.
