Inevitable
-- by -- Ray E. Gessler Copyright 1995

As I've watched you growing olde
I'm depressed at what I've seen
That your mind is not as agile
And your eyesight not as keen.

The look of stark resentment
As you struggle just to find
The memory of an incident
That suddenly left your mind.

The trembling of your wrinkled hands,
The shuffling of your feet,
The questions lingering in your eyes
Each and every time we meet.

So many things you're losing
As you while away the years,
And I'm helpless to prevent them
With a rush of heartfelt tears

But the one thing that I'm certain of
That never will depart;
It's the ever living kindness
In your everloving heart.
