I Remember
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 1999 -- JTB8817@aol.com

I remember a time when the world was new
With a sparkle as fresh as the dawn,
And each day a delight full of wonder and awe,
A parade of excitement long gone.

I remember the thrill then before any school
When my passion for reading began,
A passion transcending all other pursuits,
Paramount to the boy and the man.

I remember my mother, my father as well,
The abiding affection at home,
The sharing of joy and occasional tears
And at length my first cravings to roam.

I remember the war that impelled us apart
And the bliss when we could reunite;
I remember the babies who graced our abode,
Our most precious and treasured birthright.

I remember old friends who have now passed away,
All the triumphs and heartaches we've had
As we strode hand in hand through the pitfalls of life --
I remember the good and the bad.

But in all the reflections now flooding my mind
Of the blessings bestowed from above,
There's one that stands out at the top of the list --
I remember your infinite love.
