I Would Not Wish
-- by John T. Baker- Copyright 1999 -- JTB8817@aol.com

I would not wish to be a king
And sit upon a throne,
For monarchs all too often seem
Condemned to live alone.

I'd willingly forego a chance
To journey to the moon,
For astronauts are gone so long,
And kids grow up so soon.

I could not cope with what the world
Considers as success,
For ermine can not bring content
Nor gold true happiness.

Let others vie for accolades
And affluence pursue,
For now I know I'm rich enough
As long as I have you.
