Life, You Went On
-- by Janice Knowlton - Copyright 1998 -- jgk61@pacbell.net

Life, you went on,
You left me behind,
As if I slept in a tomb.

Not the sleep of the dead,
But the sleep I once slept,
Save in my mother's womb,

And because I slept,
Life you went on,
Decades ahead of me.

Living a life,
I knew nothing about,
As you knew nothing of me.

Life, I'm awake!
Life, I've returned!
Slow down, take my hand.

Let's walk together,
Let's talk together,
Do all the things we planned,

When we were children,
When we had dreams,
When we knew how to play.

Yesterday's gone,
Tomorrow not certain,
Life let me live you today.
