Local Magic
-- by Earl Shollenberger- Copyright 1999 -- magoo@epix.net

.

Please note that the last stanza DOES relate to a real person. She's a sweet young lady who is too naive to charge a fair rate from the business folk. I gave her a copy of this to her mother and she was pleased

Has anybody noticed
a special wonder of our town?
We're just a little village
undistinguished by renown.

But our lives are all enriched
by a very SPECIAL bond.
A "Good Fairy" lives among us,
and wields her "magic wand"!

We're bombarded with bad news;
our world's in disarray.
We only hear of sadness -
strife and war 'most every day.

So, we visit local restaurants,
unhappy with ourselves -
And LO! A "fairy" filled them
with "leprechauns" and "elves"!

She sneaks in while we're asleep
and waves her magic wand.
And when we come in the dining rooms,
our spirits ALL respond!

For each new changing season,
there's a wondrous "art" display;
and our world is briefly beautiful!
Our 'blues" all go away!

Santa Claus at Christmas time!
Pilgrims at Thanksgiving!
Easter Bunnies and Valentines
restore our joy of living!

Halloween witches and pumpkins
offset the frost of Autumn.
I've been so excited,
I "called up" folks - or brought 'em!

Mother Goose and her basket'
or "Bo-Peep" and her crook!
I just KNOW she got 'em
from my childhood "picture book"!

We hearken back to school days -
Our distant days of "yore"!
Who knows the next surprise
our "good fairy" has in story?

She outdid herself THIS Sunday!
For, beyond our wildest dreams,
She painted EVERY window
With lovely Easter themes!

"Mother Goose" ducks and bunnies
are VERY special to a child.
But there's a "child" in each of us -
We, TOO, can be beguiled!

Our "good fairy" is an artist,
and I hope she's prosperous;
for her "Mother Goose Art" is therapy
for EVERY one of us!

I've never met Paige Rittenbaugh Sep,
But I AM her devotee . . .
So I'll thank HER for ALL of us
for chasing MISERY!
