Early Loves That Never Were
-- by Bernard Gluck -- Copyright 1997 -- bgluck@earthlink.net

Tips of fingers lightly dancing
Over keys of white and black.
Old refrains are so entrancing
Softly bringing memories back.

Thoughts of summers spent in dreaming
Of a girl across the street
Hormones raging; wishes teeming
All were destined to defeat.

She had crushes on another;
He on someone else he knew.
Met her when I knew her brother.
I was just a kid like you.

Teenage years can be so trying
Missing sharing of your heart,
Longings very deeply lying,
Not yet knowing how to start.

Gone forever were those chances
For young loves I ne'er did win
Grieving for those lost romances
Cherished days that might have been.
