Hit or Miss
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 2000 -- JTB8817@aol.com

I seem to be dyslexic and
It may be getting worse
For every then and now I tend
To put words in reverse.

For instance, "all or nothing" will
Turn out "nothing or all"
And other times my patient wife
I'll call my "chain and ball."

My accidents in traffic are
Of course all run-and-hits,
And when I do get going I
Proceed by starts and fits.

I contemplate the cons and pros
I mind my Q's and P's
And never ever tell and kiss
When in my DVBs.

I try to treat folks square and fair
And share my favorite dish,
Which when they let me choose and pick
Is always chips and fish.

Both fro and to and forth and back
I pace from stern to stem,
And when at last I'm sound and safe,
I start to haw and hem.

My methods are all true-and-tried,
I press on sure but slow;
At times I may be out-and-down
But there's no tell-and-show.

My clothes are only wear-and-wash,
And leave me dry and high;
And if I don a tie and coat
That's just sky in the pie.

I delve into the bolts and nuts,
My motto's "see and wait;"
And constantly I tell my wife,
"Better never than late!"

I fight injustice nail and tooth
With all my main and might,
Participating soul and heart,
No matter wrong or right.

Through downs and ups I've long survived
Despite the cry and hue;
Come shine or rain it's simply been
A case of die or do.

I've always known it's swim or sink,
I love the take and give,
And on the whole and large and by
I've tried to learn and live.

It's tuck and nip both aft and fore
And "Treat or Trick!" for gold;
I'm less or more inclined to laugh
Now that I'm gray and old.
