Mistaken Identity
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 1999 -- JTB8817@aol.com

One day up at the Pearly Gates
While Jesus stood on guard
He spied an old man just outside
Awaiting his reward.

The man appeared familiar, so
When Jesus raised the gate
To let in all the applicants
He asked the man to wait.

"What was your occupation, sir?"
The old man raised his head,
"I was a carpenter, my Lord,"
He loudly, proudly said.

"And did you have a son appear
Amazingly to you?"
The old man nodded in surprise,
"Yes, sir, my Lord, that's true."

"And did that son of yours have holes
In both his hands and feet?"
Now Jesus spoke excitedly,
His joy almost complete.

"Why yes, he did!" the man agreed,
His eyes now open wide;
The crowd surrounded him in awe;
"Father!" Jesus cried.

The old man, puzzled, raised his hand
And slowly scratched his head;
He gazed at Jesus doubtfully;
"Pinocchio?" he said.
