Join The 'Moderns'
-- by Don Mulford - Copyright 1999 -- steldon@nbnet.nb.ca

Computer keyboard's getting old,
Sometimes it won't do what it's told,
And though I tap the keys with might
It leaves out letters when I write.

I'll buy a new one when I can;
I spoke to a computer man
But I don't think he got my drift;
I need a keyboard with no 'shift'.

I have to write 'computereze'!
No upper case or commas, please!
A keyboard all in lower case
Is what I need to run this race.

It's hard for me to reconcile
That I must use the modern style
If I'm to make a mark today,
For I prefer the classic way.

I'll sacrifice acuity,
Resort to ambiguity,
Then maybe I will be respected;
My verse won't always be rejected!

I'll try to understand the mode
That moderns use when writing ode.
I'll do my best to write the way
That modern poets write today.

So while I learn, please let me write
With rhyme and meter, though it's trite.
It's still the style that comforts me,
And in the future? Well! We'll see!
