My Son
-- by John T. Baker- Copyright 1999 -- JTB8817@aol.com

My son is uncommonly stalwart and tall
And handsome beyond all compare;
His shoulders will rank with the best of them all
And there's gold in the curl of his hair.

He's clever, my son, beyond his years,
He's patient and gentle and kind,
With wisdom enough for a dozen careers
And a heart fair a match for his mind.

The neighborhood mothers all want to engage
My son to their daughters so chic,
But there's none of them worthy to share the stage
When my boy bids the world hear him speak.

He's brave and heroic and noble in rage,
Not a spiteful or cowardly streak.
No wonder I'm proud of my son! His age?
Oh, the doctor expects him next week.
