When I wrote my poems about "Weeds" and "A Weeds Lament," I shared them with my brother. The following poem is his reply.

The Damn Old Weed
-- by Carl Cheney

My brother's done an awesome deed,
With his tribute to the lowly weed.
He's raised it from it's lowly spot,
So respect is what it now gets -- not.

With moons and stars and Mother Terese,
The list goes on it will not cease.
These things I think all will have to cede,
Deserve more praise than the damned old weed.

The above is what first came to mind,
Till the poem I pondered and now I find.
For years and years, I've worked quite hard
. To maintain a shrine, in my back yard.

So maybe weeds are not so bad.
And sighting one makes gardeners glad.
So sit down now and off quickly dash.
A tribute to the stinky trash.
