PACKAGES
--by Robert Davis-- copyright 1996

The packaging engineers have won;
Opening packages is not much fun.
Fingers bloodied by a twist-off top,
At child-proofed bottles I'm usually a flop.

Crackers wrapped in plastic tight,
Arthritic hands give up the fight.
Gadgets packaged in thick clear plastic
Require a saw or something more drastic.

The chewing gum strip - a search for free end
Is fruitless whether you scratch or bend.
Books arrive like they're boxed for life
Requiring the use of a good sharp knife.

Anxious to listen to my new CD,
Unwrapping it brings obscenity.
So while this packaging I decry,
I suppose it's here 'til the day I die.

But then, I hope my casket's firm,
To keep me safe from root or worm.
