Piano Recital
-- by Bernard Gluck Copyright 1998 -- bgluck@earthlink.net

We played in our "Recital".
Not all of us were there.
We changed the name "Recital"
And called it "Talent Share".

It didn't sound as scary
But still some didn't "show"
I think a lack of courage
Was why they didn't go.

They said they'd play their pieces
But then they "chickened-out"
And keeping a committment
Is what this poem's about.

Our ages ranged quite widely
From 5 to seventy six
Abilities did vary
It was a pleasant mix.

You're wrong about the "no-shows"
"the kids" you thought - no not!
ADULTS they were, the "no-shows"
Defaulting from their spot.
