Winter Planting
-- by Bernard Gluck -- Copyright 1998 bgluck@earthlink.net

I just got done from planting peas
But now I've got to stop.
It's safe; no frost can hurt them now
I'll get a real nice crop.

I love to stroll out in my yard
And pick some off the vine.
No need to cook this kind, you see,
Though raw they taste just fine.

Most likely more nutritious too;
The kind is SUGAR SNAP
But if some seeds do not peek through,
I'll have to fill the gap.

KENTUCKY WONDER beans are good,
But those you have to cook
Now here's a favorite recipe
Don't bother with a book.

You blanch some first and then saute
In melted margarine.
Be sure to mince a garlic clove
And add when you begin.

You stir them in the skillet
But you don't let garlic brown,
And now you've got a tasty dish
To have when you sit down.
