Across the Reef
-- by Shelby Forrest- Copyright 2000 -- sforrest@earthlink.net

I wonder at the life beyond that reef
That separates all living from the dead
Extent of human life I know is brief
What special fate awaits us there instead?

For three score years and ten it has been writ
Man lives in human form upon this earth
A brief sojourn, then journey oer the bridge
That spans the in between to death from birth

So let us make the best of what remains
Of time to spend, and may we spend it well.
Until the final curtain is released
Then we will know for whom there tolls the bell
