Reflections
-- by Dean FH Macy -- Copyright 1996 -- deanmacy@monad.net

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
My mother there as she lifts me up
To a higher chair.
She coos and she hugs,
All laughs and smiles as she feeds me food
That her touch begiles.

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
My teacher new as she shows me things
I need to do.
She teaches me art,
To draw and paint. And when others fight
She teaches restraint.

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
My bride so fair as she takes me home
Our lives to share.
Years later they come,
Our children, dears, who bring us pure joy
In their tender years.

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
My daughter, dear, as she hugs me tight
And whispers, near,
Oh, Daddy, I see
A boy inside trying to get out.
Is that you, you hide?

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
Granddaughter sweet. She kisses my face,
Cuddles my feet.
I caress her hair,
She coos delight. She's lulled by the tales
I tell her at night.

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!

She looks in my eyes,
Caretaker, nurse, as she lifts me up;
Life in reverse.
We talk all day long
And later see a beautiful glass
She holds up to me.

There's a child within,
Has always been a child of mirth
A child from birth.
I look in the mirror, my eyes to see.
It's me!
