Resume
-- by Dominic Martia - Copyright 1999 -- dfmar@webtv.net

I played at sports when I was young.
I was sure I had the stuff.
I punted, passed and batted well
But not quite well enough.

Next I thought the silver screen
Would bring me fortune, fame and all.
Once again , I missed the mark,
By how much, I can't recall.

With words I had a talent,
Why couldn't writing be my game?
I'd be another Hemingway.
Of that dream, nothing came.

My name won't be a household word,
I thought, still why can't I vie
With J.Paul Getty and his ilk
For riches mountain high?

But turning things to profit,
I discovered was a bore.
Oh, I may have made some money,
But I spent a whole lot more.

Well, at least I'm still in one piece,
And I'm comforted these days
To know that I'm surviving
My life's decrepit phase.
