Saturday's
-- by R. Wayne Porter -- Copyright 1996 -- rebel1@jps.net

Jiminny Cricket and Holy Cow
Look what I'm doing today
I used to have fun and like what I'm doing
Now life seems to be wasting away.

Saturday mornings used to be different
I once would rise with the birds
Now I sleep in, until 9 maybe 10
I stay up Friday nights typing words

Now I want you to know, I enjoyed life before
I had no excuse to complain
Then came that day, that God awful day
When fishing was called due to rain

It rained and it rained, then rained some more
I've never like staying indoors
When in came my son and said let's go someplace
In an instant my brain thought "fishing stores"

Somehow we wound up at a place I'd not been
My son called it state-of-the-art
I never knew it would change my life so
That blankity blank computer mart

I was wowed and then wooed and somehow was moved
as I reached for my credit card
I'd get fishing reports and football results
and weather couldn't catch me off guard

I carried it home, a Pentium plus
I felt like a young kid with a toy
My son taught me well, I learned how to surf
I forgot what I used to enjoy

Fishing can wait, I'll do it next week
I'll surf and then type a short story
A poem or two, and then E-mail a few
My writings should earn instant glory

Now every spare minute, the computer is on
I chat, I surf and I write
I'm addicted I guess, my life is a mess
My Internet bill's out of sight.
