The Scapegoat
-- by Bonnie J. Duckworth Copyright 1996 -- bonniej@gte.net

The scapegoat of my family,
I wonder why I was the one singled out to blame?
Maybe I try to hard to please,
or perhaps I’m being tested for Christ’s Holy name.

I suppose I should not complain,
about all the false accusations heaped upon me,
when Christ accepted everything,
as He took our blame and suffered for us shamelessly.

No one on earth is without sin.
When Christ walked upon this earth, with nothing but kindness,
so why complain when treated wrong?
But it hurts, even done ignorantly, through blindness.

If you think Christ’s life was easy,
Then try stepping in my shoes and all others like me.
Try feeling the extreme heartache,
that caused Christ’s death for all our sins upon Calvary!

Christ, scapegoat for all families.
Why was He the only one singled out for the blame?
Because of love for His children,
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, chose to take our shame!
