A Shakespeare Roll
-- byTom Odegard - Copyright 1998 -- tso@rockisland.com

When I first played a Shakespeare role
at seventeen we are quite droll
and serious as Lear may be
when young play old it's comedy.

And later on the mid-life boards
the Shrew's for taming were all bawds
and we who built the set for free
would glad have joined their company.

So now we come to ancients rare
the lines are gone, "Hist? Is a knocking there?"
'Tis only erutdite and philosophic Ray
doing his impersonation of Shak-es-par-ay!
