Snapshots
-- by don Mulford - Copyright 2000 --

I found some pictures in a book;
They had that old and greying look,
For they were taken years ago
Of people that I seem to know.

Now one of them was said to be
A likeness of a younger me,
But looking in the mirror there,
"It's nothing like me." I declare!

I know the mirror never lies,
But this old picture really tries.
My name is written, plain to see.
But it can't possibly be me.

I look the way I always did
And nothing like that fresh faced kid.
He looks so young, with dark brown hair,
With clearest skin, no wrinkles there!

His face is smooth; he's never shaved;
He certainly looks well behaved.
There goes a lad who knows his place
And I'm quite sure that's not my face!

I think I'll put that book away
And take it out another day.
I'll ask my grandson, "Tell me true,
Is this one me, or is it you?"
