The Smallest Soldier
-- by Daniel Parks - Copyright 1999 -- sheila.kaye@juno.com

Don the hat, the soldier's cap,
the transformation's made.
A once small boy, now soldier man,
no mother could dissuade.
He's marching through the streets of town,
in his imagined parade.
The smallest soldier of them all,
makes up the whole brigade.

No uniform upon his back,
but fully dress arrayed.
His weapons are invisible,
but keep the enemy stayed.
He marches to a silent drum,
within his head, it's played.
The smallest soldier of them all,
makes up the whole brigade.

He barks commands, and charges forth,
and makes a grand charade.
While with his mouth, makes shooting sounds,
that keep his foes afraid.
And just in time, the battles won,
a little hero's made.
It's time for lunch, his mom implores,
she'll feed the whole brigade.
