Spring
-- by Vance Oliphant - Copyright 1999 -- vanlorol@webtv.net

Just down the road....around the bend,
Is the beginning of spring...the winter's end.

Some time must pass before spring truly arrives;
When flowers bloom and trees come alive.

The male goldfinch will turn to gold,
And shed his winter coat as if it were old.

Most of the robins haven't arrived as yet,
But they will be here soon,on that you can bet.

Ducks and geese will fly north to nest...
Some will stop nearby for a few day's rest.

We are now hearing the songs that the cardinals sing;
Some of the sweetest sounds of spring.

On the warming breeze floats mourning dove's call'
Announcing his presence to one and all.

Chipmunks awaken from their sleep undeground,
And scurry to gather some seeds they found.

With cheeks stuffed full, to their burrow they dash;
One of hundreds of trips to add to their stash.

Some other signs of spring are beginning to show,
Such as crocus blossoms above te snow.

We may get more snow before winter's end,
But spring's just down the road......around the bend.
