The Stars and Stripes
-- by Daniel Parks - Copyright 1999 -- sheila.kaye@juno.com

The Ensign's raised and Anthem's played,
and teary eyes reveal.
The love we have for this great land,
by patriot blood, distilled.
The Stars and Stripes, our banner waves,
or' every village square.
Freedom's symbol still endures,
when handled with great care.

Stilled footsteps, hear we, from the past,
by foreign wars compelled.
For those who marched in other lands,
their silent graves revealed.
They gave their lives for you and I,
their pledge, we'll not forswear.
For freedom's symbol still endures,
when handled with great care.

Our banner's vibrant stripes of red,
upon the snow white field.
Those stripes of red are hero's blood,
by which our freedom's sealed.
For only at such great a cost,
can liberty compare.
And freedom's symbol will endure,
If handled with great care.
