Summer Storm
-- by Vance Oliphant- Copyright 2000 -- vanlorol@webtv.net

The temperature soars and the humidity is high;
Both rapidly increase as the day goes by.

In the afternoon, in the west, the first dark clouds appear,
And distant rumbles of thunder begin to reach our ear.

The cloud bank expands and soon covers the sun;
The oncoming storm puts an end to outdoor fun.

Giant thunderheads appear and soon rule the sky,
As darkness continues to intensify.

Lightning zig zags from cloud to cloud,
And crashes of thunder become increasingly loud.

The wind gets stronger and dust clouds roll;
This summer storm starts to exact a toll.

Nature's fury continues to sweep the terrain,
With destructive winds and torrential rain.

The storm finally moves on, but leaves a trail,
Of broken branches and damage from hail.

Then a rainbow appears, as if to say;
"The storm is over....have a nice day! "
