Summer
-- by Vance Oliphant - Copyright 1999 -- vanlorol@webtv.net

Just down the road ....around the bend,
Summer will creep in quietly and spring will end.

The warm days of spring are stil around,
But will soon pass by and summer heat will abound.

Though lilacs and tulips are still in bloom,
Summer heat will soon spell their doom.

Of the lovely spring flowers there will be trace,
But an abundance of others will take their place.

Petunias and roses will be the dominate strains,
And a profusion of wild flowers will cover the plains.

When thistledown is available, goldfinches will nest,
Their hatch will be later than all the rest.

The roar of lawn mowers will be around,
>From now until autumn...a continuous sound.

Swimming pools will be busy with children at play;
Also adults, for part of the day.

The parks will be crowded...empty camp- sites rare;
The sandy beaches,,,,hundreds of people will share.

All too soon, however, dew will turn to frost,
And all those long summer days will be lost.

Autumn awaits....summer will come to an end.
Just down the road....around the bend.
