A Tall Man
-- by Norman Fikes Copyright 1992 -- norbob@viptx.net

I didn't know the man at all,
but in my mind he sure stood tall.
Driving up and down the road,
his responsibility a heavy load.

He wore the badge with honor and pride,
even in danger not stepping aside.
He was there for you and there for me,
although' some just could not see.

When we were in trouble he was our friend,
he done his duty right to the end.
Giving himself to protect the land,
from those who had a greedy hand.

The risk was high and the pay too low,
yet this great man was willing to go.
I never got to know this man,
nor' will I ever understand.

Why he had to die this way,
just why this price he had to pay.
His family now with heart-rending pain,
struggling their lives to regain.

Let us send our love to you,
for we are at loss what else to do.
And all these words seem so small,
for a man that stood so very TALL.
