I'm Thankful
-- by Vance Oliphant - Copyright 2000 -- vanlorol@webtv.net

I'm thankful for so many things that I've received in life;
My many friends, my family....especially my wife.

I'm thankful for my children, 'though scattered far and wide;
I know that when they're needed, they'll be at my side.

I'm thankful for my grandaughter...what every grandchild should be;
'Sugar, spice and everything nice;" she means the world to me.

I'm thankful for the jobs that I was fortunate to hold,
And the fact that my family was never hungry or cold.

I'm thankful for the winter snows and even the bitter cold,
And northern winds that blow on by...... strong, icy and bold.

I'm thankful for the rains of spring and the warmng rays of the sun;
When winter's ice begins to melt and the streams begin to run.

I'm thankful for the summer sun......the humidity and the heat;
When grain begins to ripen.....the oats, the corn, the wheat.

I'm thankful for the autumn colors....the brown, the red and gold;
The leaves that flutter to the ground, their final story told.

I'm thankful for the cardinal, the goldfinch and the dove;
The nuthatch, the sparrow, and the hawks that soar above.

I'm thankful for the northern lights and the eerie call of the loon;
The rivers, the lakes, the rolling hills and the lovely harvest moon.

I'm thankful for the sunsets that tint the evening sky;
The sun's final tribute to our world, before the light begins to die.

I'm thankful for the stars that shine on all those moonless nights;
They hang up there like beacons.....the Lord's guiding lights.

I'm thankful for the sunrise at the dawn of every day;
It's the start of something wonderful, if we just think that way.

I'm thankful for the leisure time and trips I was able to take,
To enjoy our beautiful country, which the Lord took time to make.

I'm thankful for my retirement time and days that seem so full;
Having a wonderful wife to enjoy them , will keep them from being dull.

I'm thankful for the days of peace, even when times were tense;
And gentler minds tore down the wall and started talking sense.

As years go by and time grows short; I have one final word;
The one thing I'm most thankful for, is the blessing of our Lord.
